Sony is pleased to announce the introduction of the new PMW EX1R XDCAM® EX Camcorder
, successor model to the extremely popular PMW-EX1. With its basic design inherited from its
predecessor, the new PMW EX1R adds several additional functions and features, as well as
improvements, many as a result of direct user feedback and comments. The New PMW EX1R
brings several frequently requested tools to affordable HD professional acquisition with the addition
of DVCAM™ recording, higher resolution viewfinder, cache recording, one push auto iris, image
inversion, and HDMI™ output to name just a few.

The NEW PMW EX1R once again raises the bar of high quality, high resolution, and high
definition video imagery for value conscious acquisition professionals.

New Features
ONE-PUSH AUTO IRIS
A One-push Auto Iris button has been added to the lens of the PMWEX1R,
allowing the user to momentarily activate Auto Iris mode while
this button is pressed.

ONE-PUSH S&Q SWITCH
A new S&Q (Slow & Quick Motion) button has been added to the inside
panel. It allows the user to switch quickly between Normal mode and
S&Q mode. In S&Q mode, a blue LED on the button lights up.

DVCAM RECORDING
A newly added feature in the PMW EX1R – Standard Definition
recording in DVCAM mode – offers those currently using SD systems a
smooth migration path to HD production.

ATW HOLD
The ATW (Auto Tracing White Balance) function automatically adjusts
the camera’s color temperature according to changes in the lighting
conditions. This function is useful when recording outside for long
periods, and the lighting changes gradually over time. The PMW EX1R
also has an ATW Hold function, which allows the operator to hold auto
tracing at a desired color balance via an assignable switch.

CACHE RECORDING FUNCTION
Audio and video signals are buffered to the camcorder’s internal
memory before the record button is pressed. Once the record button is
pushed, the cached portion is recorded onto the memory media. This
portion is added in front of the new clip.

IMAGE INVERSION FUNCTION
When a cinema lens or still-camera lens is attached to the camera with
a DOF (Depth of Field) adaptor, the image is rotated 180 degrees.
Image Inversion allows for the image to be recorded normally in its
correct orientation.

IR REMOTE CONTROL ON REAR
The PMW EX1R has a newly added IR remote control receiver on the
rear of its handle. This allows the user to control the PMW EX1R with a
remote commander both from the front and rear of the camcorder.

ADDITIONAL ASPECT MARKERS FOR CINEMA
Several new aspect markers such as 1.66:1 (European VistaVision),
1.85:1 (American VistaVision), as well as Cinemascope’s 2.35:1 and
2.4:1 are added for more convenient cinema operation.

0.54-INCH* COLOR LCD VIEWFINDER
The PMW EX1R is equipped with a new color LCOS type LCD viewfinder
panel, displaying high-resolution color pictures of approximately
1,226,000 pixels in a wide-screen aspect ratio of 16:9, and greatly
simplifying focusing. Operators can also switch between Color and
Monochrome Display modes.

HDMI OUTPUT
The standard HDMI connector (Type A) allows the user to show the
picture on a consumer display or professional monitor equipped with
an HDMI input. Non-compressed video and two channels of audio can
be output.

1440X1080 HQ MODE
1440x1080 HQ mode is added as an HQ recording format. For
interoperability with XDCAM, it is recorded at 35 Mbps. Although the
clips recorded with this mode use the “.mp4” file extension, they can
be changed to “.mxf” by using Clip Browser for compatibility with an
XDCAM operation workflow.

IMPROVEMENTS TO SWITCHES AND DIALS
Several switches, buttons and jog dials are improved in shape and/or
position. One example is the power switch’s changed shape. Since it
was slightly difficult for some operators to stop its position at center
for power off, the new switch has a lock mechanism.

NEW TRIPOD ADAPTER PLATE
The tripod adaptor has been changed from a one screw adaptor to a
two screws adaptor. This adaptor can better fix the camera onto the
tripod mount. Most major tripods manufactured today support a twoscrew
type adaptor but please check with tripod manufacturer.

SMOOTH ZOOM TRANSITION
This function is for smoother zooms when using the handle buttons.
Unlike the main zoom lever on the lens grip, the handle zoom cannot
control the zoom speed and so starts and stops where not smooth. A
“Zoom Trans” menu is added to the menu of the PMW EX1R to allow
the user to select “Linear” or “Soft”. By selecting the “Soft” option,
the handle zoom will start and stop smoothly.

The PMW EX1R utilizes Sony's three newly designed 1/2-inch type
"Exmor"™ CMOS sensors, each with an effective pixel count of
1920 x 1080. Coupled with our newly developed signal processing
LSI, the PMW EX1R produces truly exceptional images in 1080p,
720p and 1080i HD. Using another new Sony innovation, the SxS
Memory Card flash memory device, very high data transfer speeds are
also made possible in order to enhance the High Defintion content
creation workflow. Utilizing the MPEG-2 Long GOP CODEC to achieve
a balance of quality and the required bit rate, the PMW EX1R boasts a
long recording time - approximately 140 minutes using two 16GB SxS
Memory Cards. Additionally, the PMW EX1R offers a powerful Slow
& Quick Motion feature, or what is more commonly known as
"over-cranking" and "under-cranking", to enable users to create
slow and fast motion special effects. The PMW EX1R XDCAM EX Full
High Defintion Camcorder represents a new level of high quality,

Features	Benefits:
Three 1/2" Exmor CMOS sensors	Achieves full HD acquisition at 1920 x 1080 resolution without the use of pixel interpolation. Due to the larger 1/2" size, the Exmor sensors also offer higher sensitivity and better S/N ratio than previous 1/4" and 1/3" sensors used in typical handheld camcorders.
14x Zoom Lens	Fujinon 14x zoom lens offers auto focus as well as image stabilization functions. The new lens also utilizes a unique focus ring mechanism that allows for easy selection of AF and MF operation by sliding the ring either forward or backward.
Lens Grip Rotation Mechanism	The lens grip can be rotated to facilitate a wide variety of shooting styles.
AF Assit Function	AF Assist: When this feature is activated, the focus ring still functions when Auto Focus mode is switched on. While the focus ring is rotated, focus is controlled manually. Whne the rotation of the focus ring ceases, AF resumes and searches for the nearest focus point.
MF Assist Function	MF Assist is used to avoid improper focusing in manual focus mode. With MF Assist activated, the Auto Focus is automatically momentarily activated only near the exact focus point. This feature is can only be activated with the focus ring in the AF/MF position.
Expanded Focus	To assist in manual focus operations, the Expanded Focus function is incorporated in the PMW EX1R. When the Expanded Focus button on the lens grip is pressed, the image on the LDC/EVF is magnified approximately x2 to allow for precise focusing. Magnification appears only on the LCD/EVF, while the recorded image is not expanded.
Built-in stereo microphone	The PMW EX1R is equipped with a built-in stereo microphone. 16bit / 48kHz stereo sound can be recorded without the need for an external microphone.
Picture profile	The PMW EX1R has a Picture Profile function to control camera picture settings. There are 6 Picture Profile memories available to the operator, each with several user definable parameters to allow for custom picture settings.
Slow & Quick Motion	This feature allows for what is commonly called over and under-cranking. This function works in either 1080P or 720P mode, recording natively with no interpolation of frames, and without decreasing picture resolution.
Shot Transition	Two sets of focus, zoom, iris, gain, shutter speed, color matrix and detail level can be preset. The settings can then be gradually applied from one to another. The transition is selectable either in time or in speed, and the transition curve can also be selected as either Linear, Soft Transition or Soft Stop.
3.5" LCD Panel & 0.54" EVF	The newly developed 3.5-inch LCD panel has 1920x480 pixels, with a horizontal resolution of more than 700TV lines, to facilitate HD manual focus operations. The LCD is a hybrid type, allowing the displayed image to be seen even under bright sunlight by switching off the LCD back light. Both the LCD and EVF can display images at the same time.
Depth of Field Display	A Depth of Field gauge display can be enabled on the LCD/EVF. The camera operator can set camera position, iris, zoom and other related items such as shutter speed and ND filter to obtain the ideal depth of field by referring to the display. The distance is shown either in meters or in feet.
Brightness Display	The brightness level of the center of the frame can be displayed on LCD/EVF. When the function is enabled by the BRIGHT DISP button or by menu, a rectangular center marker is displayed in the center of the LCD/EVF, and the average brightness level inside the cursor is displayed near the cursor. The brightness display function is especially useful when equipment for shooting is limited and no waveform monitor is available.
Histogram Display	A histogram of brightness distribution within a frame can be displayed on LCD/EVF by pushing the HISTGRAM button or by menu. The display helps to decide the exposure level via several parameters, including iris, gain and gamma.
SDI Output	The PMW EX1R is equipped with a SDI output connector. SDI, serial digital interface, can be used for monitoring, dubbing to another video format such as XDCAM HD or HDCAM, or feeding to an NLE. The output can be set to either HD or SD.
Shutter Angle Setting	Other than the standard electric shutter speed setting such as 1/100 seconds, shutter angle setting is available on the PMW EX1R among 180, 90, 45, 22.5 and 11.25 degree. The shutter angle setting is popular in shooting with film cameras and is useful especially when combined with the Slow & Quick motion function. By using the shutter angle, the ratio between exposure time and a frame term is always consistent, whatever frame number per second is selected in Slow & Quick motion. In other words, the shutter "speed" varies depending on the frame number per second. For instance, if the shutter angle is 180 degrees, the shutter speed is 1/48 in 24P, and 1/60 in 30P.
Slow Shutter and Extended Slow Shutter	Slow shutter is a convenient function for shooting in low light. It allows the charge accumulation period of the imager to extend longer than a frame term and the minimum illumination is drastically improved. In addition, slow shutter function is useful for shooting of moving objects with an afterimage special effect.
User assignable Buttons	The PMW EX1R is equipped with four assignable buttons. Assign 1, 2, and 3 buttons are located on the side panel, and Assign 4 is on the front panel below the lens. Using these assignable buttons, several functions can be activated without the need to use the menu.
Supports 2 recording modes - HQ and SP	HQ is the full HD shooting mode, offering 1920x1080i/P as well as 1280x720P image acquistion @ 35Mbps, with true native 24P recording at both resolutions. SP mode is compatible with HDV, as well as XDCAM's SP, recording 1440x1080i images @ 25Mbps. The audio format in both modes is LPCM 16-bit, 48kHz, 2CH.

The BP-U30/U60 uses a communication line with the PMW-EX1, whereby the
precise remaining capacity can be displayed on the PMW-EX1's LCD and viewfinder.
The battery information display on LCD is available even while the
camera power is off (not on EVF). The BP-U30 and BP-U60 also have LED
displays to indicate the remaining capacity of the battery at the push
of a button on the battery itself.

The SGM-1X Professional Shotgun Microphone is designed to provide quality audio
for the videographer. It is ideal for today’s smaller, digital video cameras
where longer models would appear in the frame when camera mounted. The
hyper-directional super-cardioid shotgun microphone has a wide frequency response,
exhibits low noise and accepts up to 110dB SPL input levels. The 11.8" long microphone
uses a single “AAA” battery that will last over 1000 hours due to the mic’s extremely
low current drain. The low-impedance, XLR connectored SGM-1X ships complete with a
windscreen and Azden’s proprietary shock-mount holder that isolates camera motor

Sony SBACUS10

The SBAC-US10 USB Reader/Writer supports those with PCs not equipped with the
Express Card slot. The SBAC-US10 can be connected to a Windows PC or a
Macintosh via USB interface. Since this connection is made as "Mass Storage
Class", no special driver installation is required. DC power must be
provided using the supplied AC adaptor.

Dual Battery Charger for XDCAM EX Camcorders

The SxS PRO Memory Card is about half the size of a PC card and fits in
ExpressCard 34 and 54 slot sizes. It will initially be available in
8GB and 16GB storage capacity,with higher capacity planned for the future.
Providing reliability, durability and expansion flexibility while offering
improved performance, the SxS PRO Memory Card may be defined as the flash
media of choice – and the definitive media for high definition.

is the next generation PC card standard. It will record approximately

Sony “SxS-1” was developed to meet demands for an affordable solution
to SxS PRO memory cards. The SxS-1 memory card maintains the same
shooting capability as SxS PRO as well as high performance and
reliability for professional use. The only differentiation between
the SxS-1 and SxS Pro Memory card is the reduced number of read/write
cycles. In order to keep track of the SxS-1 remaining usage, Sony has
equipped the latest PMW-EX1R and PMW-350 camcorders with a “media
life indicator” which is shown on the camcorder display.

The SxS-1 memory card will initially be compatible with only the new
XDCAM EX camcorder models PMW-EX1R, PMW-350L and PMW-350K. In the
case of PMW-EX1/EX3/10MD, an end user firmware upgrade, scheduled
for release in the Spring of 2010, will be required and can be
downloaded from the Sony Pro Media website when available. Users
that own an PMW-EX30 must send their deck to a Sony Service center
to complete the required firmware updates

The VCT-SP1BP Monopod Camera Support System includes
a lightweight monopod with a telescopic shaft
constructed of carbon fiber composite material, and
a vest-type support harness for total mobility while

Ameripack Hard Transit Case For PMW-EX1

The Sony LCEX1AME Ameripack Hard Transit Case is a high-density polymer
watertight, airtight, sand and dust proof case with pre-cut molded foam and
convoluted foam in the lid. It is designed by Ameripack to carry and protect
a Sony PMW-EX1 camcorder and accessories. It has a manual purge valve and is
temperature rated to -27.4 to +194° F (-33 to +90° C). The case is transported
by a soft grip rubber handle, a retractable haul handle that extends 15" and two
large heavy-duty plastic wheels.

The VCL-EX0877 is the 0.8 times wide conversion lens for the PMW-EX1. With
the VCL-EX0877 mounted to the PMW-EX1, the focal length becomes 25.1mm
to 351mm (31.4mm to 439mm in 35mm equivalent). The PMW-EX1 has an optical
specification compensator function. By changing "Wide Conversion" in
Camera Set menu "On" manually, chromatic aberration compensation and
the image stabilizer mode is optimized for the VCL-EX0877.

DSR-PD170, HVR-Z1U, HVR-V1U, and PMW-EX1 camcorders. This new "doctor bag"
style semi hard camera bag is uniquely designed to hold a camera and accessories

The PMW-EX30 deck is a highly versatile and affordable compact
recording deck,and can be used for many different applications.
It allows simple viewing of recorded materials with a monitor,
dubbing to other format/media such as HDV™, XDCAM HD and HDCAM™,
and feeding to nonlinear editing systems. In addition, the PMW-EX30
deck can be used as an affordable full HD recorder for event recordings
– it can record HD signal outputs from a switcher. The PMW-EX30 deck
is equipped with a wide array of interfaces including HD-SDI input and
